Sonnyboy has just recently joined the herd. He is a 12 year old Quarterhorse Palomino with one blue eye (known as a glass eye), and one brown eye. He is a former hunter/jumper pony from the Wellington area in South Florida, who stands about 14.3 hands, although we have not put a stick on him yet.
Sonnyboy is a rescue. We were told he had a horrible accident and would never jump again. He has been on our large pasture since September 2015, and would only walk. Recently though we have seen him trotting and cantering, and even volunteer jumping over the 20″ dressage arena rails. We’re thinking that with the free movement 24 hours a day, and the light riding he is getting through the soft sand in the arena, that his hind end is strengthening up. We have also incorporated Kool ‘n Fit liniment spray on his stifles and front pasterns. He loves the liniment as much as me, and is responding well.
Sonnyboy is of a sweet disposition. He’s a little lazy but when correct aids and ques are given, when he transitions up into the trot, the little horse seems to grow large and go big. We are very happy he is here and will post his progress as we learn more about him.
We think his registered name is “He’s the One for Me” or maybe it’s “He’s the Man for Me”. In any case, he has his home for life.
